Ajax Amsterdam, one of the top teams in the Dutch Eredivisie, and Glasgow Rangers have agreed to a €27 million transfer price for the services of Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey.
Additionally, Bassey is expected to have a medical before signing a long-term contract with Ajax in front of a €27 million summer transfer, according to Italian transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano.
Romano has also reported that there is a €22 million flat fee with €5 million in add-ons and a 10% sell-on clause of any future sale, which is a hefty sum for a £230,000 investment in 2020.
Calvin Bassey contract details: €22 million fee guaranteed, €5 million add-ons, and sell-on clause about 10% of future sale," Romano tweeted. Bassey has been confirmed to have a long-term contract.
The versatile Super Eagles star will become the most expensive defensive signing in Ajax history according to the contract, which also includes a guaranteed spot in the Champions League.
Ajax believes that Bassey can take Lisandro Martinez's spot, who will cost £46 million to join Manchester United. Bassey was selected by Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder to replace Martinez.
